Author of NZ #1 Bestseller Understanding Te Tiriti

I wrote Understanding Te Tiriti because it’s the book I wish I’d had before I started working as a human rights lawyer.

After 20 years of practising as a lawyer and a decade educating others, I saw how many people felt confused, overwhelmed, or even scared to engage with Te Tiriti. They wanted clear, simple, and non-judgemental information.

Writing this book was my way of making Te Tiriti more accessible, and helping more people feel confident and empowered in their understanding.

Understanding Hauora

I wrote Understanding Hauora after a decade working on cases about Te Tiriti and the health system.

This short, accessible guide explains what hauora really means and how Te Tiriti o Waitangi guaranteed Māori would continue to have authority over their hauora.

Drawing on evidence from the landmark Waitangi Tribunal Hauora Inquiry, I cover the history, the impacts of land loss and harmful laws on Māori health, and the hope we see when Māori lead solutions that improve outcomes for everyone.

Writing this book was my way of making the facts clear and accessible without jargon or judgement.
